Dogs Come Back Against South Shelby

January 27, 2010
By Dustin Watson of Brookfield High School

In the boys game, the Dogs fell behind off the bat due to a 4-0 Cardinals run.  Matt “The Tool Man” O’Toole scored the first Brookfield points at the 5:42 mark.  A basket from Ethan Harmon tied the game at 7-7 with 3:12 left, but a 6-0 run by South Shelby gave the Cardinals back the lead after one quarter 15-9.  Ethan Huff led scoring in the opening salvos of this battle with three points.
Nine seconds into the second quarter, a pair of Andrew Baum free throws put Brookfield on the board.  South Shelby scored a little over 30 seconds later.  The Cardinals worked to extend their lead, but Brookfield fought hard to stay in the game.  A three pointer with 15 seconds left in the half from Blake Burns helped close the gap to 38-25 at halftime.  Baum had 10 points in the second quarter to lead scoring.
