Bluejacket girls tame the Tigers

BASKETBALL ROUND-UP: Cambridge-Isanti got off to a 1-0 start in Mississippi 8 girls basketball by holding off visiting Rogers 52-51 Dec. 15. Junior Paige Muehlhauser led the Bluejackets with 25 points, including sinking 1-of-2 free throws late to break a 51-51 tie. The Royals had two last field goal attempts which bounced off the rim on their final possession.

Muehlhauser made 9-of-11 shots from the field during her career-high night of scoring, and she doubled up with 10 rebounds. More Bluejackets adding significant numbers were Natalie Larson (10 points/6 rebounds) and Emily Holboy (6 points).

• On Saturday, the Bluejackets rolled to a 41-17 halftime lead before posting a 70-34 victory over host Princeton. Whitney Olson sunk 5 three-pointers and led the Bluejackets with 23 points. Brynn Liljander contributed 15 points and 4 assists. Emily Holboy worked for 8 points and 10 rebounds inside. Adding more points for C-I were Justine Larson (6) and Natalie Larson (5).

• On Dec. 20, section-partner Forest Lake opened with a 21-9 lead and defeated the C-I girls 60-49. Leading the Bluejackets in scoring were Whitney Olson (14), Paige Muehlhauser (12) and Brynn Liljander (10).
