Jackets girls' basketball defeats Spring Lake Park

The Cambridge-Isanti girls’ basketball team held off a Spring Lake Park rally to defeat them 63-55 on Dec. 6. The victory gives C-I a 3-1 record.

After Spring Lake Park held a 9-8 lead early in the game, Jacket Paige Muehlhauser answered with 7 points to help C-I on a 12-0 run to take a 19-8 lead.

The Bluejackets led 28-21 at halftime.

In the second half, Park kept slicing away at the C-I lead, yet trailed 37-34, 44-40 and 53-50. The Jackets kept their poise and never gave up the lead.

In the final minutes, Park had to foul in hopes C-I would miss their free throws. Instead, Brynn Liljander drained four and Lily Porta two clutch charity tosses that led to a Bluejacket 63-55 triumph.

Liljander led the C-I scoring with 29 points, while Muehlhauser contributed 11 points. Porta added 9 valuable points.

Liljander, beside leading the scoring parade, had nine assists.

The Bluejackets will host St. Cloud Tech on Dec. 15 with a 3:15 p.m. start.
