With senior guard Brynn Liljander scoring 33 points, the Cambridge-Isanti girls’ basketball team rolled over Princeton 58-42 in the season opener on Nov. 27.
The Jackets showed overall team power, but the sharp-shooting Liljander, who poured in 20 first-half points and 13 points in the second half, was the impetus to send C-I to a one-sided win.
The first four minutes of the game were close, with the scored knotted at 6-6, but Justine Larson and Liljander each sank 3-pointers for a 12-6 lead and the Bluejackets never looked back.
The Jackets powered their way to a 37-19 halftime lead.
In the second half, C-I continued to hold a 16-18-point margin, but the Tigers rallied to come within 10 points at 44-34 and 52-42. Each time, the Jackets answered and pulled away to end up with a 58-42 victory.
Other than Liljander’s 33 points, no other Jacket could hit double figures. Amanda Hanson was the second-best scorer, with the senior forward coming through with 8 points.
C-I hit 20 of 48 field goal attempts for 42 percent.
The Jackets will host Forest Lake on Dec. 4 and Spring Lake Park on Dec. 6. Game time for both contests is 7:15 p.m.
