Dear Maine-Letter 5

May 5, 2014
James F Byrnes Freshman Academy

Dear Maine,

I have social anxiety how do I get over that?

                     Scared in Spartanburg

Dear Scared in Sptbg.,

I’m really glad I got your question because believe it or not last year I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. Anxiety is a very hard disorder to live with and deal with in your everyday life.

I’m not sure what types of things make you anxious socially, but for example if sitting in class makes you anxious, some things that you could do are draw a picture or play  around with something in your hands,  , just something to get your mind away from that anxiety feeling.

If you can’t get your mind of it right then, ask to go to the restroom or guidance, just to walk around and chill out.

Just try to keep a positive attitude at all times.  This will get better.
