The Snow Is All Gone

March 20, 2014
James F Byrnes Freshman Academy

During the week of Valentine’s Day, (2/9 – 2/15) snow came down in inches, cancelling most if not, all schools in the Greenville – Spartanburg area of South Carolina.

According to Byrnes Freshman Academy, the snow days lost will be announced if they are forgiven or have to be made up when they know about it.

According to myhorrynews.com, the S.C. House has passed a bill to forgive up to five days due to the storm. The S.C. Senate was going to review the bill, but the weather prevented it for at least two more weeks.

If the days aren’t forgiven, the school will probably take off days at the end of the end of the year, and not touch spring break, according to Mr. Edwards, principal of Byrnes Freshman Academy.

“A lot of people’s [teachers and students] families probably have plans for spring break. My family has plans for spring break,” Mr. Edwards said.

Kinsley, student at BFA said, “It would not be fair because people have plans [for spring break].”

Last time it snowed, teachers had to make – up 12 hours of school time.

Mr. Edwards commented, “Teachers may have to make up more hours.”

If the Spartanburg area gets any more snow and school gets cancelled, the days will probably be forgiven, or the school year will extend far into June.

According to CoCoRaHs.org, (Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow Network) by February 13, there was 2 – 4 inches of snow in some areas of Spartanburg.
