Home » Newspaper NewsJunior Wins Miss Byrnes PageantFebruary 21, 2013 James F Byrnes Freshman AcademyByrnes High School junior, Alison Adams, took home the title of Miss Byrnes this past January 26th at the District Five Fine Arts Center. Adams received gift certificates, an opportunity to appear on television, and received a $1,000 educational scholarship as a prize. Adams won out against fifteen other female contestants participating in the pageant. The competition was in categories such as evening wear, casual wear, and talent. Emily Correll and Alison Adams won talent. Contestants Brittany Durrah and Hannah Bledsoe won Evening Gown/Casual wear. First runner up was sophomore contestant Emily Correll. Second runner up was contestant Hannah Bledsoe. Third runner up was Ana Moises while fourth runner up was the BFA contestant, Shaylyn Simmons. “It (the pageant) was an awesome experience! The friendship the girls and I formed throughout our rehearsals and competition helped ease our nerves because we had each other to lean on for support,” said Adams. Adams said her favorite part of the pageant was the interview because she loves to speak in front of other people and she has never met a stranger. Adams also learned some important things from the pageant such as how to think on her feet when answering a question, have confidence and poise on stage, do her own makeup, and tease her own hair. Since Adams won Miss Byrnes this year, she cannot participate next year, but she cannot wait to support all the girls that are going to perform in the 2014 Miss Byrnes Pageant. Adams stated, “Ultimately, I took away irreplaceable bonds with the girls and a team of supporters that will last forever.”
