FCA 5K Approaches fast

January 18, 2013
James F Byrnes Freshman Academy

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) will be hosting its 4th annual BFA 5K run to benefit Relay for Life on Saturday, March 23rd at 9 a.m. at the Willow Creek Golf Course.

In past years, the run has raised over $6,000 to go towards Relay for Life. Coach Crowe, a teacher and coach at BFA, hopes that BFA will be able to raise over $10,000 this year.  Relay for Life is a volunteer-driven, cancer fundraising event of the American Cancer Society.

Students who do not necessarily like to run are strongly encouraged to participate in the Couch-2-5K program. This is an internet workout, which gives training to prepare anyone pretty much to be able to run a 5K in a nine week training period.

Students, families of students, and teachers can sign up to run the 5K at Strictlyrunning.com or see Coach Crowe for a form. Participants will receive a t-shirt and a gift bag.

The cost to register is $25.00 if a person signs up early online, but on the day of the run it costs $30.00. The time to sign up at the run is from 8 am to 8:45 am.

In each age division there will be an award for the fastest runner. Coach Crowe encourages students to participate in the 5K “to have fun and get healthy.”

Mr. Odom, an assistant principal at BFA who has run the FCA 5K before, said, “I love seeing faculty, staff and students putting forth their best effort for the cause (Relay for Life).” He encourages all students to come out even if they do not run to just walk.
