Bleach in the eyes of a child by mother
May 3, 2012James F Byrnes Freshman Academy
Child abuse has sadly been taken to the next level on May 2011.
Twenty-nine year old Jennifer Mothershead, mother of a 14-month daughter was accused of putting bleach in her child’s eyes and is on trial for her first account of child abuse.
The doctors originally prescribe the child eye drops for her eye infection.
The mother told the nurses that she scratched her eye in the barn playing.
After this incident the child experienced a head injury and then was air lifted to the hospital.
As the child was getting checked out by the doctors for her head injury, they noticed the eye infection had gotten worse.
The mother told them that her daughter had been sleeping 20-22 hours per day because her eye was swollen shut and the pain of the sun was too much.
When the police went to the house where the child and mother were living, they tested the eye drops she was using, which burned the officer’s skin.
The officer found that the bottle had chemicals in it, and when the bottle was sent to the lab the chemical was determined to be bleach.
The child now is 2-years old and lives with her father and is permanently blind in her right eye.
The mother pleaded not guilty on 1st account of child abuse but has another court date on June 5th.
