The first round of the NFL draft took place on Thursday, April 26, 2012. The second and third rounds took place on Friday, April 27.

The first pick of the second round was Appalachian State’s, Brian Quick, a wide receiver. Brian Quick was drafted to the St. Louis Rams.

Right behind Quick was the second pick of the second round, tight end, Colby Fleener, from Stanford University.  Fleener was drafted to the same place as his previous college teammate, quarterback Andrew Luck, who was picked first of the entire draft.

Clemson University’s Defensive End, Andre Branch, was the sixth pick of the second round during the draft. Branch was drafted by Jacksonville Jaguars.

South Carolina’s own, Alshon Jeffrey, a wide receiver, was the thirteenth pick in the second round by the Chicago Bears. Alshon was the third athlete from the University of South Carolina to be drafted in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Stephen Hill, a wide receiver from Georgia Tech, was a second round pick by the New York Jets.

The first pick of the third round was Clemson University’s Dwayne Allen, a tight end. Dwayne Allen was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts, along with Andrew Luck and Colby Fleener.

Trumaine Johnson was right behind Allen, being the second pick in the third round. Johnson is now a defensive back for the St. Louis Rams.

Brandon Thompson, a defensive tackle, also from Clemson University, was the thirtieth pick in the third round of the draft. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals, where he will assist Dre Kirkpatrick, Kevin Zeitler, Devon Still, Mohamed Sanu, and many more during the 2012 season

Nick Miller, a student at Byrnes Freshman Academy, said, “Stephen Hill was a good pick for the Jets because they need a good receiver to throw the ball to.”

Zach Talley, a football player at Byrnes, said, “Alshon Jeffrey was a good pick because the Bears have a decent quarterback.  He just needs someone to throw to.”

Ridge Welch, a student at Byrnes Freshman Academy, said, “It’s cool that a University of South Carolina student went to the NFL in the second round.”
