Cam Newton, previous one-year Auburn quarterback and 2010 Heisman trophy winner. Said he is improving for next year’s season.

After his senior season, Newton was drafted to the Carolina Panthers as their starting quarterback.

He played in a total of 16 games during his rookie season.

Last season, he won the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award and he is out sizing up the expectations for his second year.

During the 2011 season, Newton completed 310 passes out of 517 attempts, which is 60 percent of his attempts.

He had a total of 21 passing touchdowns and 14 rushing touchdowns.

Isaiah McKinney, a Carolina fan, said, “He is one of the best rookies the NFL has ever had and will eventually lead the Panthers to the Super Bowl.”

Zach Talley, an athlete at Byrnes High School, said, “He is talented, but he hasn’t adapted to the speed of the game.”

“Newton will be good once he realizes that the NFL is a lot different from college,” continued Talley.

Nick Miller, an athlete at Byrnes High School, said, “He is good, but for next season he needs to work on his speed because you have to be quick to play with other NFL players, not just physically, but mentally, also.”
