Home » Football NewsTim Tebow's public praying takes a toll on societyMarch 6, 2012 James F Byrnes Freshman AcademyA lot of controversy has been exposed about Tim Tebow and his public display of praying. Brady Quinn, backup quarter back feels as if Tebow’s praying in public does not represent humility and that it is only for the cameras. We all can agree that Tebow is a very good leader and quarterback but maybe Quinn was also right. If you want to pray then you should do simply what the bible says and that’s not to pray in mass crowds of people but alone. Quinn stated that he had no problem with prayer but he felt as if Tebow was doing it as a way of attention. I don’t believe that he does this for attention but I do agree that it is wrong and is not exposing humility. Rather his intentions are good or bad this situation needs to be addressed. Tim Tebow, as of right now is the face of Christianity in sports but you can’t go strictly against what the bible says when it comes to humility. Everyone knows and recognizes his strong belief in God so there is no reason to pray in front of thousands before every game. And if that’s something he feels that is essential to do before games then he should get the whole team involved. Now there are people posing in Tebow’s praying stance all over the internet and in public. Is this really what praying to God is about? I totally agree that Tebow is only trying to use his position to make a change and a major movement but when a celebrity exposes prayer in this manner it starts a trend not a change. Daryuz Murphy, student at BFA, stated, “I believe that he has all the right intentions. I don’t think that he does anything intentionally and I know that he will bring a big change to people’s lives, but the way he is doing it isn’t completely right and needs to be addressed.”
