March 29, 2014
By jorge hernandez of BERGEN COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Paramus, NJ - The Bulldogs (7-5) defeated visiting Luzerne CC (0-5) by the score of 3-2.  The game was won in extra innings.  Bergen was down 1-0 throughout the game, but were able to rally with two outs in the last inning to tie it.  Willie Cruz (Union City) had the big hit to tie the game and send it to extra innings.  In the eigth inning, Luzerne scored to make it 2-1.  The Bulldogs rallied again by getting to men on. They then stole their way into scoring position.  Matt Dawkins (Englewood) was on second and Dan O'Neil (Saddle Brook) at bat with the infield in.  Dan with a 2-2 count hit a screaming groundball that got through the drawn in infield.  Luzerne's leftfielder had to hurry to throw Dawkins out at the plate, but it was to late and Bergen wins on a walk-off.

The player of the game was Matthew Van Riper (Elmwood Park) who had allowed one earned, four hits, and three BB in 7 innings.  Matthew had an amazing day on the mound by striking out 14 batters. Dawkins had a big day at the plate going 1-2 with 2 BB, SB and scoring the winning run. Thirdbaseman, Kevin Benjamin (Fairlawn), goes 1-3 and continues to stay hot at the plate.

The Bulldogs will now travel to Middlesex (5-7) on Tuesday, April 1st beginning at 3:30pm
