Home » Girls' Basketball NewsBruner resigns as Wheeler girls basketball coachAugust 12, 2011 Wheeler High SchoolBy Jim Peters Posted: May 6, 2011 at 1100 p.m. Coaching two sports at Wheeler keeps Marc Bruner occupied for the better part of the calendar year. He'll be getting some of those months back with his resignation from girls basketball. He will continue as softball coach. "You get pulled so many different directions," Bruner said. "I've enjoyed doing both, but it got to be more work than I felt I wanted to put in and that's not fair to the kids. They need somebody who's going to stay on them to be the best they can be and I told them I just don't feel I have the energy to do it." Time, both how much and when, led to Bruner giving up basketball as opposed to softball. "The time commitment in basketball is so much longer," he said. "It's a longer season. Softball's done in two months. My wife and I are looking to start a family at some point and basketball comes at a lot of important times with the holidays. After the season, softball starts right away and then you go right into summer basketball season. It's just so overwhelming. It'll be nice to be a little more normal." Bruner chose now as opposed to the end of the school year in order to give the school the chance to get a jump on a new hire.
