Boys Defeat Boone Grove

February 4, 2011
By Logan Moore of Wheeler High School

First and foremost I would like to apologize for the poor quality of the broadcast of the Boone Grove game. Due to the school's location it was hard for our wireless internet to recieve good service.
Despite the difficulties on the website however, the Bearcats had no difficulty defeating their biggest rival, Boone Grove on Friday night. With their Pep Block behind them every step of the way, Wheeler played solid ball all throughout the first half. A nice collection of three pointers from senior Matt Hurst helped keep Wheeler in the lead for the majority of the game. Wheeler faltered a bit at the end of the second quarter allowing the Wolves to surge back and tire the game in the mid third. With Boone Grove revitalized, their Pep Block exchanging cheers with Wheeler's, the Bearcats needed to find a way to change the momentum. This momentum shift came in the form of Nigel Mims. Mims got the ball on a fast break and slammed it down with authority sending cheers throughout the Wheeler section and reengergizing the team.
The Bearcats held their lead in the fourth quarter stretching it to 60-50. From that point on it was Wheeler's game. They managed the ball well and hustled on defense forcing turnovers from Boone Grove. Sophomore Christian Sikoski held the ball in the final seconds of the game letting the final moments slip off the clock. Wheeler came away with an impressive 65-54 victory over their long time rivals. Wheeler will play tomorrow night at Morgan Township High School at 7:30. Congratulations boys.
