Home » Baseball NewsPatriots Win Sectional 59 Baseball ChampionshipMay 30, 2011 By Shane Lightfoot of Bethesda Christian High SchoolThe Bethesda Patriots baseball team won the Sectional 59 championship today with an 11-0 win over Indianapolis Lutheran. Junior Cy Hayden broke the game open in the 4th inning with a 2-run single to centerfield. The Patriots were further helped by a home run and a total of 3 hits from Tyler Sims and a grand slam homer from Levi Marshall that sealed the game. Defensively, the Patriots were solid as they played the game without errors. Sims also got the complete game victory on the mound with a terrific pitching performance, going 6 strong innings with 8 strikeouts and only 2 walks. Amid the excitement after the game, Coach Rob Sims reminded the players, coaches and fans that this championship was the first step in what is hoped to be a long and successful run to the State finals. The Patriots begin Regional action on Saturday, June 4th, at 1 p.m. at Shakamak, where they will face the winner of the Morristown Sectional, which will be decided tomorrow, Tuesday, May 31. Winning the first game on Saturday would allow the Patriots to advance to the Regional final at 8 p.m. The winners of the Shakamak and Shawe Memorial Sectionals will square off in the other Regional pairing at 11 a.m.
