The weather conditions were less than ideal at Derby City Field on Saturday. Snow, wind and bitter cold couldn’t keep the Eagles off the field.
Spalding Baseball (5-0) won both match-ups with Earlham College today, 10-7 and 10-4.
Wes Phan FR RHP (Ballard H.S.) was on the bump in the first game for the Golden Eagles and notched his first collegiate win. Wes threw 5 innings scattering 10 hits allowing 6 runs, with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Ryan Mosby SO RHP ( St. Xavier H.S.) relieved Phan in the sixth inning and was awarded the save. Mosby allowed a hit and a run in 2 innings of work.
The Eagle bats came to life, FR J.R. Belt (Southern H.S.) accounted for 3 RBI’s with 2 doubles, BB and a HBP. Keith Gorence SR 1B (Trinity H.S.) and Kyle Barbee SO OF/P (University Heights H.S.) each chipped in 2 rbi’s.
Kyle Hudson SR RHP (Rend Lake C.C.) started game 2 allowing only 1ER while striking out 7, walking 2, and scattering 6 hits through 5 innings. FR RHP Aaron Dickman closed out the game for the Golden Eagle Nine along the way getting the first strikeout of his college career.
Offensively Kyle Whitlock FR (Trinity H.S), Ryan Mosby, J.R. Belt, and Sam White (DeSales H.S.) made it happen. Sam White and J.R. Belt each had a pair of RBI’s. White batted 3-3 with 3 singles and Belt 2-2 with a double. Ryan Mosby chipped in with an RBI triple in the third inning.
Game 3 tomorrow at Derby City Field. First pitch is a noon our broadcast will begin at 11:35am.
