SU Baseball first weekend Recap

The Golden Eagles are flying high and off to a hot start.  SU completed their first weekend posting a 3-0 record.

The season opener with the College of Mount St. Joseph's proved exciting. Jr SS Derek Ferch worked a ninth inning bases loaded walk to bring in the 5th and winning run.  SU bested the Lions 5-4.  FR RHP Wes Phan was on the bump for the Golden Eagles making his collegiate debut.  Wes pitched 5 innings scattering 8 hits and allowing 2 runs, while striking out 6 and yielding no walks.

On Sunday the Golden Eagle Nine travelled to Danville, KY for a 2 game showdown with Centre College.  In Game 1 SR RHP Kyle Hudson was masterful giving up only 2 hits and striking out 3 in 5 innings of shutout ball.

In the night cap SO RHP Mike Grindstaff a Northern Illinois University transfer started for Spalding University throwing 3 innings giving up 1 earned run with 6K's and 1BB.

Quality starts, solid defense and timely hitting was name of the game this weekend!

Ferch led the team with 4 RBI's. FR OF Sam White had the hot bat, going 4-6 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI's.  JR 2B Matt West a Cleveland State C.C. transfer hit 5-9 with a double and an RBI.  SU posted a team fielding percentage of .969.

Earlham College will be at Derby City Field (DCF) this weekend for a 3 game series.
