Home » Baseball News7th Region Championship Game PostponedAugust 23, 2012 By Timothy Brian of The B and B Sports Broadcasting NetworkAfter nearly three innings of play and two weather delays that lasted almost two and a half hours the only thing decided was that we would all meet again tomorrow. The St. Xavier and Male game was suspended in the bottom of the third inning and will resume Friday at 8:00. This game will follow the Bullitt East and PRP game originally scheduled for Thursday night at 8:15, but now being played Friday at 5:30PM. The Pitching matchup: Brandon Yates (2-1) for Bulldogs and Sam Melichor (8-1) for the Tigers. Tonights game was the fourth meeting for these two teams. Male holds a 2-1 advantage. St. Xavier scored in the bottom of the first on an rbi single by Andrew Willinger. Willinger scored Jake Johnson who lead off the inning with a single then stole second base. Bulldogs Justen Linares in the first inning and Blake Oyler in the second inning both were walked by Melichor, but neither were able to score. Oyler was picked off at first and Linares fell victim of a fielder's choice. The Bulldogs went down 1-2-3 in the third on consecutive ground ball outs from Brandon Yates and leadoff hitter Zach Janes. Justen Linares was the third out of the inning becoming Melichor first strike out of the night. The Tigers plated two runs in the bottom of the third. Conrad Ulmer lead off the inning with a solid hit to centerfield. Nate Stemle reached on a throwing error on a bunt attempt which allowed Ulmer to advance to third. Jake Johnson then plated Ulmer and Stemle on a 2 rbi sacrifice fly to left-center field. Andrew Willinger sharply singled for his second hit which brought Coach Driskell to mound. Brandon Yates was replaced by Senior Jarrod Messex. A lightning strike brought the game to halt. Followed by the evacuation of Jim Patterson Field. After a two and a half hour delay the teams returned to the field only to have play stopped a second time. This game will be resumed Friday at 8:00PM. Tigers lead 3-0 in the bottom of the third. Bullitt East and PRP Friday at 5:30PM......weather permitting.
