Augusta Cross Country Keeps Runnin' as Season Winds Down

The Augusta Cross Country team kept busy over its Fall Break last week. On October 15, AHS joined other area schools for the Buffalo Trace Conference Championship hosted at Mason County. Only contesting a high school varsity race, four Panthers competed. Camryn Snapp placed fourth, running 17:58. He was also named Buffalo Trace Conference First-Team. Nathan Shrader and David Reed each ran their 5K season best at 21:35 and 23:26 respectively. Thomas Mains finished 23:46, while continuing to battle knee issues.
The team returned to action on October 19, traveling to Ashland for the Area 7 Championship hosted at Fairview. Augusta had two runners in the boys’ varsity race. Camryn Snapp placed 13th, earning a spot on the All-Area 7 2nd Team, running an 18:17. This was a 1.5 minute decrease from when he ran the course earlier this season. The other varsity runner, Jessie Zornes, set a personal record running 23:50. His time reflected a 7.5 minute decrease from the earlier meet on the Fairview course. Leading the way for the middle school team was sixth grader Morgan Thorpe. He finished 18th, running the 4K race in 20:07
