On October 09, the Panthers traveled to the Sayre Athletic Complex in Lexington for the Bluegrass Conference Championship Meet. Fresh off the meet at Bracken County, where the middle school team finished third, though somewhat short-handed, the team had its full roster. The end result was a first place finish for the team.
Pacing the junior Panthers was David Reed, who finished the 3K in 12:51, placing 4th. Thomas Mains finished 8th, running the course in 13:05. Other top 15 finishers for Augusta included Morgan Thorpe (9th), Kody Saylor (10th), Seth Haas (12th), Skyler Haas (13th), and Jacob Hensley (14th).
“One of our goals has been to place as a team. Individual accomplishments are great, and we will continue to take all of those that we can get, but I’m trying to get a focus on team success as well,” Coach Tim Litteral commented. “We were able to place first at Sayre, even though no one ran his best time. I hope this shows that them that if they continue to work hard, this can become a regular occurrence.”
In the boys’ varsity race, Camryn Snapp finished in 4th place, running a 5K time of 18:29, down 17 seconds from last year. Other varsity runners included Nathan Shrader (21:47), Clay Gray (22:22), and Nick Zeidler (22:34). The results for Shrader, Gray, and Zeidler were season bests.
