The Campbell County Camels came to Augusta for the first time ever on Thursday night, bringing a 9-12 record that might mislead the casual fan. The Panthers certainly would not overlook the Camels. The 1st quarter was a battle as Augusta jumped out to an early lead only to see Campbell County come back and take a 16-12 lead going into the 2nd quarter. In that quarter the Panthers would have little trouble with the Camels' press as they bounced back to take a 33-28 lead at halftime. The game would continue to go back and forth in the 3rd quarter and a late run would push Augusta to a 54-48 lead as the teams entered the final quarter. Campbell County would own the 4th quarter as they took control from the start with an 11-0 run that put them up 59-54. From that point Augusta scratched and clawed but only could get as close as 3 points as the Camels hit 16 of 18 free throws down the stretch to keep the lead and win the game, 73-67. Augusta fell to 17-8 on the season. Brent Bach led Augusta with 23 points. Joining him in double figures were Tanner Kelsch with 15 and Owens Crawford with 10.
"We came up short but you can't say we didn't battle," said Coach Hinson, "The record doesn't show how good Campbell County is and they brought it tonight."
