Panthers Win Third Straight
January 7, 2013Augusta Independent Schools
On Saturday night the Augusta Panthers hosted the Manchester (OH) Greyhounds hoping to get revenge for a 73-49 loss the Panthers suffered in Manchester last season. The 1st quarter would be a battle as the two teams went back and forth with Augusta coming out on top, 17-14. In the 2nd quarter foul trouble would hurt both squads as Manchester had to go deep into their bench while Augusta had to play without Brent Bach for most of the quarter after he picked up his second foul. But as the Panthers have done all season in Bach's absence, they stepped up their play and increased the lead and were up at intermission, 35-26. Manchester was happy to get their lone senior back in the lineup to start the 3rd quarter but he quickly picked up his third foul and Augusta blew the game open in that quarter scoring 27 points and were up 62-39 going into the 4th. The Panthers were able to empty the bench again and win easily, 77-54. Brent Bach led all scorers with 24 points and was joined in double figures by Dustin Freeman with 15, Camryn Snapp with 13, 12 for Connor Maddox and 10 for Tanner Kelsch. Augusta's 3rd straight win improved them to 12-4.
"We're playing great basketball right now and that's what we hoped for," said Coach Hinson, "We go to Harrison County on Friday night continuing to prepare for the Class "A." It should be a good test."
Scoring vs. Manchester: Bach 24, Freeman 15, Snapp 13, Maddox 12, Kelsch 10, Crawford 3
