Home » Boys' Basketball NewsPanthers Handed First Loss by PendletonJanuary 7, 2013 By Timothy Litteral of Augusta Independent SchoolsOn December 6th Augusta was in Falmouth to face the Pendleton County Wildcats. A large crowd was on hand for this one to see Chicago White Sox reliever and Pendeton County grad Nate Jones have his baseball jersey retired. Playing a close second was the chance to see Brent Bach and Pendleton County's Mason Monroe go head to head. They would not disappoint. The first quarter was a back and forth affair that the Wildcats came out of leading 23-22. In the first 2 games the 2nd quarter had been Augusta's strongest on offense and defense. Pendleton County would change that as the hot shooting Wildcats dropped 32 points on the Panthers and went to the break leading 55-42. In the second half the Wildcats continued to blister the nets and keep Augusta at a distance despite Brent Bach's game and career high 45 points, including 18-18 from the free throw line. Monroe finished with 39 points but more importantly his Wildcats picked up the victory, 102-89. Augusta fell to 2-1 on the young season. Joining Bach in double figures were Tanner Kelsch with 15 and Dustin Freeman with 11. Bach's 45 was the 5th most points scored in a game in Panther history. Scoring vs. Pendleton County: Bach 45, Kelsch 15, Freeman 11, Maddox 8, Snapp 7, Crawford 2, Conn 1
