Central Park Christian Upholds Winning Ways Against West Oaks
January 24, 2010Atlanta National Invitational Showcase
Many looked forward to this matchup between a good West oaks squad and a Central Park Christian team who everyone wanted to see based on the rumblings that they had not lost in years. Central Park did not disappoint. The team came out with a defensive intensity that made it easy to see why they run away with some games like they do. The team hustles for every loose ball, keeps arms and hands moving on defense, and goes to the cup like contact is expected and is no excuse for missing a layup. Jeff Wherry had 16 points for Central Park and Van Green added 17, but the total team effort is what pushed the squad past West Oaks. Muhamed Lee had 20 points for West Oaks and Cedric Jones & Aururo Oberg had 10 points apiece. Ashton King, an inside presence on both ends, had 11 points including a thunderous two hand dunk in the closing minutes. While Central Park was well on their way to the 81-69 win, King's intensity was there until the final buzzer sounded. However, in the end, that final buzzer meant a W for Central Park Christian.
