Westlake, GA 88 vs. Memphis Central, TN 80 (Watch Game) WESTLAKE CENTRAL Tony Bagtas: 31 PTS Andre Applewhite II: 23 PTS,12 REB,3 STL Jeremy Postell: 12 PTS, 6 REB Myron Johnson: 24 PTS, 8 REB Andre Elam 12 PTS, 6 REB D’arrius Sorrell: 15 PTS, 8 REB *Tony Bagtas was 6-for-9 from 3PT land * Jeremy Postell, Myles Mann, and Andre Elam played well inside for Westlake – on both ends * At only 5’ 8”, Myron Johnson’s scrappy play in the paint shows in his numbers. He took 16 trips to the free throw line where he got 13 of his points. Most of the free throw line trips were earned during contact in the paint after a Johnson drive or rebound. * Andre Applewhite II had a tough first half with 2 fouls early and the Westlake defense not giving him the chance to get going, but he had a strong second half, especially the 4th quarter. Huge reason why Central was able to close the gap and almost come back and steal one
PAIDEIA MUS Keenan Palmore: 18 PTS,11 REB,9 AST,3 BLK,3 STL Danny Galvin: 24 PTS, 9 REB
Memphis East, TN 71 vs. North Clayton, GA 68 (Watch Game) EAST North Clayton Nick King: 21 PTS, 14 REB, 2 BLK Devin Lewis: 11 PTS, 11 REB
*Earvin Morris and Nick King provided a great 1-2 punch for East. Nick King’s 1st half productivity was hurt by 2 fouls he picked up earlier than East would’ve liked him to. He could have easily had a 30 point game. Morris and King did a good enough job on defense to keep Devin Lewis and Marcus Hunt from doing enough inside to get the win. Those are two strong forces inside for North Clayton
* While he had some shots that wouldn’t fall for him, Marcus Hunt still had a 21 and 15 day that he had to work harder than usual for as a result of East’s defense and the extra load added by Devin Lewis’ foul trouble. Based on the minutes both played, Hunt was inside dealing with East’s Morris and King for just over 11 minutes of the game. In a 3-point loss, it’s worth contemplating what might’ve went differently if Lewis plays 22 minutes instead of 19 minutes and 41 seconds – unless you coach/play for North Clayton – I’m sure they’re focusing on their game in Day 2.
