Honors from South Holland

Astro Television returned from the annual South Suburban
College Video Contest awards ceremony in South Holland
April 10 with arms full of metal and paper.
Scott Schultz starred for Astro-TV in the News/Feature story
category. Not only did the Columbia College-bound senior
grab the championship with his reporting and writing for
"Bear Down in Bourbonnais," but he also finished as runner-
up in the same category with "Rocky's Law." Both stories
evolved during Schultz's 2013 Summer break, as he received
unprecedented access to Chicago Bears rookies at an August
training camp session, as well as a rare, one-on- one
interview with Illinois Governor Pat Quinn three days earlier.
Also in on the honors in the News/Feature category were
editors for those top, two stories – Junior Scott Olvera for
“Bear Down in Bourbonnais,” and Junior Caleb Kurchinski for
Schultz was also part of Astro-TV's other championship on
the night - this time in the News Program category with the
"Fall Wrap-up." Joining him as trophy recipients were co-
anchors for the quarterly newscast – Senior Aunjanaye
Williams and Junior Seanna Johnson.
Finally, the first District 218 school ever to produce a live webcast
was judged runner-up in the Live/Multi-camera category – with
help from Schultz's play-by-play during a live Boys Volleyball
webcast in 2013 featuring the regular season match against Argo.
His co-announcer for that webcast, Stephanie Korbakes (’13), was

When joined by District 218 rival Eisenhower in its three
finals categories, the Astros placed ahead of the Cardinals each time.
Congratulations not only to the Astro-TV on-air talent that were
honored, but also to the entire behind-the-scenes production crew,
whose tireless dedication and energy during AND after school helped
create the foundation for success that was enjoyed in South Holland
