West Caldwell entered the game with a 15-5-1 record overall and a 13-0-1 record in the Catawba Valley Athletic Conference. The Warriors also won its first conference championship in the history of the program. West Caldwell had just finished off an impressive conference season, allowing just eight goals in the 14 conference games while scoring 64 goals, 21 more than any other team in the CVAC. None of that mattered as the Huskies took the Warriors down on the road behind some stellar defense and one key hustle play that gave Ashe the win. Half way through the first half, the Huskies scored the only goal of the night when Andrew Lopp had a strong throw in that the Warriors could not clear out of their end. Tyler Keagy pounced on the loose ball and kicked it past Warrior goalkeeper Tony Garcia. Defensively, the Huskies played a great game, denying West Caldwell any goals even though they had plenty of opportunities. The Warriors out-shot Ashe 14-6. Husky goalkeeper Braxton Treadway stopped eight shots in the victory. Up next for the Huskies will be Newton Conover (8-13-1), who pulled off a nice upset of their own, beating Owen (17-5-1) by a 1-0 score, meaning the Huskies will now host the second round playoff game this Saturday as Ashe is a 3-seed and Newton Conover is a 5-seed. This playoff game will be played on Monday, November 8 at 6 p.m.
