Home » Baseball NewsHuskies Baseball Pick Up First WinMarch 14, 2012 By ACHS iHigh of Ashe County HuskiesBy: Alan Wooten - Ashe Mt TimesAshe County High defeated East Wilkes 9-2 in Mountain Valley Conference baseball Tuesday night, earning its first win of the season.The Huskies of head coach Ronnie Pruitt (1-4, 1-3 MVC) played errorless defense, rapped out a season-high 12 hits, and scored twice each in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings. Ashe led 4-0 before the Cardinals struck for a pair of runs in the third. Senior Matthew Seton was 4-for-5 at the plate, extended his hitting streak to four games, and scored three runs. Senior Sam Gammons and junior Carson Knight added two hits each and Avery Barr drove in three runs. Gammons, Knight, Landon Gray and Michael Dolinger also drove in runs, and Gammons had the only extra-base hit when he doubled. The Huskies swiped five bases, including two by Sexton. Sexton raised his team-leading batting average to .625. Cameron Guyton (1-2) pitched the complete-game victory striking out a season-high 11. He allowed five hits, two earned runs and walked three. Ashe won the junior varsity game 12-7.
