Bogue Chitto's Biomedical Research Team visited the University Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson on Thursday, August 14, 2008, for orientation. The team consists of seven seniors enrolled in Biomedical Research at Bogue Chitto Attendance Center.

They were welcomed by Dr. Rob Rockhold (Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; Professor, Dept. of Parmacology & Toxicology), who expressed his excitement about working with Bogue Chitto in the study of fire ants.

Fire ant research is part of a curriculum Dr. Rockhold is developing with the help of a Howard Hughes grant.  Kathy McKone, Biomed teacher at Bogue Chitto, is part of the teacher team working with Rockhold in this endeavor. Any schools interested in having their students participate in this research can learn more at the "Biotech Initiative Symposium" at Copiah-Lincoln Community College on September 3rd starting at 9:00 A.M.

Dr. Donna Sullivan (Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases) who teaches medical students presented a biotechnology/AIDS lecture before leading a tour of the medical center and sharing pointers about getting into Medical School.
