2009 Playoff Brackets

November 8, 2009
By Calvin Walters of Eastern Alamance High School

The 2009 NCHSAA football playoff brackets were released today and Eastern Alamance was seeded fifth in the Eastern section of the bracket.

The Eagles open the playoffs with conference opponent McMichael, whom EA defeated three weeks ago 45-13.

This will be the fifth season in a row Eastern Alamance will host a first round playoff game at Fred Brady Athletic Stadium.  The Eagles are 4-1 at home over the last four years.

Several other Mid-State 3A teams made the playoffs this season, but only one joins EA in the "little 3A" division of the playoffs.  Western Alamance earned a seventh seed and will host Washington high school.  The other conference teams to make the playoffs were Easten Guilford, Williams, and Northern Guilford who are all in 3AA.

Eastern Alamance and West Craven both went 9-1 on the season (according to NCHSAA seeding rules after one Non-conference game is dropped) and a draw determined that West Craven would recieve the fourth seed.

The conference rematch between the Eagles and Phoenix is one of many instances that will occur in the playoffs as the NCHSAA attempts to reduce travel distances and costs for teams.
