Gray Named Athlete of the Week By Josh Gooding Senior Jessica Gray was named Greene Central's Athlete of the Week for the third week of October. Gray was nominated for her outstanding performance on the tennis courts during the 2009 season. "Her improvement has come at a key time for us. Jessica has played a major role in our recent victories over Tarboro, Edenton Holmes, and Rocky Mount," said woman's tennis coach Donald Clark. "The closeness of the team makes it feel almost like another family; they are always there to support you on and off the courts," said Gray. "I've also been extremely pleased with Jessica's team attitude. She encourages her teammates, and she has a true vision for what this group of girls can accomplish if they work together," said Clark. Gray plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington or East Carolina University after graduation to major in Nursing. "I don't plan on playing tennis in college; however I do plan on playing league tennis just for the thrill," said Gray. Gray is currently enrolled in Math 161, Health 120, English 12, SAT Prep, and AP Psychology. "By being a senior this year, I finally get treated like an adult by the teachers. I am really looking forward to going to college next year where I will be treated like an adult even more," said Gray. Gray is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Smiles club, and Shag Club. She is the daughter of Cindy and Chris Gray of Snow Hill. |
