Gardner Named Student of the Week

By Josh Gooding

Freshman Lillie Gardner has been selected as Greene Central's Student of the Week for the second week of October.

Gardner was nominated for being hard-working and diligent in everything that she does.

"Lillie works hard on and off of campus; she is always willing to do what it takes to get the desired results.  I look forward to teaching her throughout high school," said Sergeant Dennis Bottoms.

"High school is a lot more work than middle school; you have a lot more responsibility," said Gardner.

Gardner wants to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to major in Forensics or East Carolina University with the intent of going into the Marines.

"When we went on the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) trip to ECU, I learned a lot about their Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program.  The quality of their program has persuaded me to go into the military," said Gardner.

Gardner is currently enrolled in JROTC, Honors World History, Freshman Seminar, and Honors Earth Science.

"JROTC is a very physically demanding program; it keeps you on your toes and offers leadership which is essential to further success in high school and life.  The uniform teaches discipline and honor; also you gain a lot of valuable experience that can be used in military life later on," said Gardner.

She is the daughter of Sharon and Timmy Gardner of Snow Hill.
