Lady Titans defeat Sacred Heart 3-1

July 30, 2008
By iHigh Staff of Ridgeland High School

The Lady Titans faced off against Sacred Heart in the first game of their three game series with teams from New Orleans, Louisiana. The game was played at Isadore-Newman High School which was the alma mater of Payton and Eli Manning. Ridgeland would play a very defensive game for most of the first half. In the 29th minute of play, sophomore fullback Allison Ayers played a ball to center midfielder Kelsey Givan. She sent a ball behind the defense and senior forward Becca MacNeill scored a goal against the run of play. That lead would stand at the half. The Lady Titans would come out energized in the second half, even though Sacred Heart would score the equalizer in the 50th minute. Sophomore CJ Winship would make a hard tackle on a breakaway near the top of her box, but the ball would be rebounded and shot on goal. The ball just cleared the head of fullback Carmen Bofill and landed in the back of the net. In the 72nd minute, Ridgeland reclaimed the lead when Bofill made a very long throw into the box. Senior forward Angie Smith would fake the keeper and slot a ball just inside the post for the game-winning goal. MacNeill would help put the game out of reach when her pass was fired by Givan past a diving keeper and off the right post for the third Titan goal. Winship and the defense would stand strong for the last eleven minutes for the win. The Lady Titans are now 17-2-1 on the season and play Caledonia tonight in the first round of the playoffs at 5:30 at Freedom Ridge
