ARLINGTON VOICE WEEK TEN FOOTBALL PREVIEW

DISTRICT 3-5A

Martin Warriors (7-2, 6-0) at Bowie Volunteers (8-1, 6-0)

THE SERIES: The Warriors lead the series, 13-7, despite the fact that Bowie has won four of the last six years and has taken six of the last 10 meetings. Martin won the only previous meeting at Wilemon Field in 2001.

LAST WEEK: Martin remained unbeaten in district action with a 52-21 thumping of Sam Houston, while Bowie also remained perfect in 3-5A play with a 38-7 win over Arlington High.

THE SHOWDOWN: Only once before have two Arlington ISD teams played the final week with perfect district records. That was in 2002, when Arlington High finished its perfect district mark with a 21-16 victory over Lamar, for the Vikings’ only district loss.

NOVEMBER REIGN: Not only has Martin won 11 consecutive district games (tied for the fifth-longest streak in AISD history), but the Warriors have won their last five games in November, and seven of their last eight.

Fort Worth Paschal Panthers (2-7, 0-6) at Lamar Vikings (4-5, 3-3)

THE SERIES: The Vikings lead the series, 4-0, including both previous meetings at Cravens Field.

LAST WEEK: Lamar moved a step closer to the playoffs with a 41-14 pounding of Weatherford, while Paschal remained winless in district action with a 31-12 loss to North Crowley.

TO BE CONTINUED: A victory would extend Lamar’s season into the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.

THE VIKING-PANTHER SERIES:

Arlington Colts (7-2, 4-2) at North Crowley Panthers (3-6, 3-3)

THE SERIES: The Colts lead the series, 3-0, including the only previous meeting in Crowley. 

LAST WEEK: Arlington High saw its four-game winning streak come to an end with a 38-7 loss to Bowie, while North Crowley remained alive in the playoff hunt with a 31-12 win over Fort Worth Paschal.

THOSE PESKY PANTHERS: For what it’s worth, North Crowley can still force a three-way tie with Arlington and Lamar with a win Friday night. It would make all three teams 4-3 in district action and force the district to look for its list of tie-breakers.

THE COLT-PANTHER SERIES:

2008 Arlington, 21-0 (Birdville AC)

2010 Arlington, 55-19 (Maverick)

2011 Arlington, 42-35 (Crowley)

Weatherford Kangaroos (2-7, 1-5) at Sam Houston Texans  (2-7, 1-5)

THE SERIES: Weatherford leads the series, 4-3-1, but has never beaten the Texans at Wilemon Field. In fact, the Kangaroos haven’t won a game in the city of Arlington since 1990. 

LAST WEEK: Sam Houston dropped its fifth straight game with a 52-21 loss to Martin, while Weatherford absorbed a 41-14 loss to Lamar.

ENDING ON A DOWNER: Sam Houston has lost its last regular season game seven of the last eight years. The lone win was 2010’s 54-25 result over Weatherford.

Juan Seguin Cougars (3-6, 2-4) at Red Oak Hawks (6-3, 5-1)

THE SERIES: The series is tied, 1-1, with each team winning on its home field.

LAST WEEK: Seguin remained part of the playoff picture by smashing Mansfield Lake Ridge, 52-7, while Red Oak moved into a tie for the lead in the district by beating Waxahachie, 34-17.

A LONG SHOT: Seguin can still make the playoffs, but it will have to have some help. The Cougars must beat Red Oak (a tall task in itself), and have Waxahachie lose to Ennis (more likely). The result would be either a tie for the final playoff spot (which would go to Seguin for its head-to-head win over the Indians), or a three-way tie with Summit (in which the Cougars would advance in the head-to-head points tie-breaker).

THE COUGAR-HAWK SERIES:

2007  Red Oak, 21-14 (Red Oak)

Lancaster Tigers (8-1, 5-1) at Summit Jaguars (3-6, 3-3)

THE SERIES: This will be the first meeting between the Jaguars and Tigers.

LAST WEEK: Summit outlasted Mansfield Legacy, 43-37, while Lancaster rebounded from its loss to Red Oak by blasting Ennis, 51-14.

DISTRICT 7-5A

Timberview Wolves (3-6, 2-4) at Duncanville Panthers (2-7, 1-5)

THE SERIES: The series is tied, 1-1, with each team winning on its home field.

LAST WEEK: Timberview lost to Midlothian, 28-10, while Duncanville was routed by South Grand Prairie, 44-12.

THE WOLVES-PANTHERS SERIES:
