WEEK SIX PREVIEWS

DISTRICT 4-5A

Sam Houston Texans (2-3, 1-1) at Lamar Vikings (2-3, 1-1)  

  • THE SERIES: The Vikings lead the series, 32-9, and have won the last 10 meetings and 25 of the last 27. Lamar also owns a 14-4 edge at Cravens Field, where the Texans have not beaten the Vikings since 2001.   
  • LAST WEEK: Lamar lost its first district game, falling to Arlington, 50-17, while Sam Houston lost to North Crowley, 21-7.
  • OBSERVING, NOT CELEBRATING: Sam Houston became the first AISD team to lose its homecoming game this season by losing to North Crowley. Arlington, Bowie and Lamar had already won their homecoming games and Martin won its game Friday against Weatherford. Juan Seguin’s homecoming is October 26 against Mansfield Legacy.

Bowie Volunteers (4-1, 2-0) at North Crowley Panthers (1-4, 1-1)  

  • THE SERIES:  Bowie leads the series, 2-0, winning each of the last two years.
  • LAST WEEK: Bowie smashed Fort Worth Paschal, 63-3, while North Crowley stopped Sam Houston, 21-7.
  • LIGHTING UP THE SCOREBOARD: Bowie has outscored its two district opponents, 118-6, setting a new Arlington ISD record for points scored in its first two district games. The previous record was 106, set by the 1950 Arlington Colts.

THE VOLUNTEER-PANTHER SERIES:

2010 Bowie, 42-14 (Maverick)

Martin Warriors (3-2, 2-0) at Fort Worth Paschal Panthers (2-3, 0-2)

  • THE SERIES: The Warriors lead the series, 9-0, including both previous meetings at Farrington Field. 
  • LAST WEEK: Martin rolled over Weatherford, 59-7, while Paschal absorbed a 63-3 beating from Bowie.
  • THE MISERY CONTINUES: Paschal has now lost 17 consecutive district games, dating back to 2009.

Arlington Colts (4-1, 1-1) at Weatherford Kangaroos (1-4, 0-2) 

THE SERIES:  The Colts lead the series, 13-8, and have won the last nine. Weatherford has not beaten Arlington since 1954. Arlington also has a 7-5 edge in Weatherford, where the Colts haven’t lost since 1953.

LAST WEEK: Arlington rebounded from the loss to Martin by stamping Lamar, 50-17, while Weatherford was thrashed by Martin, 59-7.

SLOW STARTERS: Weatherford is trying to avoid its third straight 0-3 district start.

Lancaster Tigers (5-0, 2-0) at Juan Seguin Cougars (1-4, 0-2) 

THE SERIES:  Lancaster leads the series, 2-0, having beaten the Cougars in 2006 and 2007.

LAST WEEK: Seguin gave a great effort, but fell to Summit, 43-36 in overtime, while Lancaster pounded Waxahachie, 45-14.

THIRD TIME’S A CHARM: Seguin hasn’t been 0-3 in district play since 2007.

THE COUGAR-TIGER SERIES:

2006 Lancaster, 13-12 (Wilemon)

Mansfield Lake Ridge Eagles (0-5, 0-2) at  Summit Jaguars (1-4, 1-1) 

THE SERIES:  This will be the first meeting between the Jaguars and the Eagles.

LAST WEEK: Summit picked up its first win of the season by outlasting Seguin, 43-36 in overtime. Lake Ridge continues to struggle in its first year of varsity football after being hammered by Ennis, 74-0.

THE ERRORS OF YOUTH: Lake Ridge might have fared better with a year or two of JV schedules. The Eagles have already allowed 289 points in their five games, and scored just 21.

 

DeSoto Eagles (5-0, 2-0) at Timberview Wolves (3-2, 2-0)

THE SERIES: This will be the first meeting between the Wolves and the Eagles.

LAST WEEK: District 7-5A had a collective open date last week. Two weeks ago, DeSoto bombed South Grand Prairie, 40-7, while Timberview stopped Mansfield, 36-20.
