The Apollo E-Gals softball team made school history as they defeated Meade Co 7-5 and winning Apollo's first ever regional championship during the fastpitch era.  With the victory, the E-Gals have punched their ticket to the state tournament next week. The state tournament will be played at Owensboro's Jack C. Fisher softball complex.

Katelyn Knott earned the Win Striking out 4 over 7 innings.  At the plate, Autumn Grady, Lexi Newcom, and Summer Grady each had two hits.  Lexi had a double and 2 RBI’s.  Katelyn Knott had a triple and Sarah Smith had a single and scored 2 Runs.

The victory is a benchmark win for the E-Gal softball program as it has improved steadily over the past decade.  Under the leadership of Coach Melissa Bullington, Apollo won its first district title in the fastpitch era in 2006.  (Apollo won a state softball title in 1995 during the slowpitch era.)  Under the leadership of Coach Frank Stein, Apollo went to the region tournament twice and was defeated by Owensboro Catholic in the region championship in 2012.  Now in 2014 in his first year as head coach, Stephen Julian and his assistant coaches - wife Kristy and assist coach Katie Carpenter (pitcher of the 2006 district championship team) - have lead Apollo to its first birth in the fastpitch state tournament.

The E-Gals will now take on Green County next Thursday at 7:00 PM when they play in the state tournament.  The tournament will be played at Jack Fisher Park here in Owensboro.   A tournament pass will be available on the first day for $15.  The pass will gain one admission to the entire tournament on June 5, 6 & 7.   Children 10 and under are free.

The coaches and players would like to thank everyone who was at the game last night.  The Apollo fans were AWESOME and we hope they can all come out to Fisher Park this coming week too.
