Apollo Baseball Defeats Devils 7-4

Apollo defeats Owensboro 7-4

Jakob Shuler drove in three runs, sparking Apollo to a 7-4 victory in seven innings over Owensboro at OHS on Wednesday, May 7.  For the 2nd straight game, Shuler hit a home run. . .this one in the fifth inning.

Ryan Hundley worked out of six tough situations for Apollo. He pitched seven innings and allowed two earned runs on nine hits. Ryan faced his toughest moment in the seventh inning.

Webb took the loss for Owensboro. He lasted just 4 2/3 innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed five runs.

Apollo jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third.

Owensboro answered with one run of its own in the third scoring on a passed ball.

Apollo didn't relinquish the lead after scoring four runs in the fifth inning when it scored on Shuler's 2-run home run and an RBI single by Nate Hopewell.

Owensboro scored one run in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh. In the fifth, Owensboro scored on an RBI single by Hemingway, bringing home Hanley.

Apollo added two more runs in the top of the seventh. A ground out scored Kenny Rideout to start the scoring in the inning. That was followed up by Cole Lyons's single, scoring John Mark Thompson.

After pushing across one run in the bottom of the seventh, Owensboro faced just a 6-4 deficit. An RBI double by Cundiff gave Owensboro life. The game went final when Whitehouse struck out.
