March 17, 2014By Jon Boultinghouse of Apollo High School
Apollo jumped out to an early lead on Madisonville and captured an 11-1 victory on Saturday at Eagle Park in Apollo's season debut.
Seven runs in the first three innings allowed Apollo to put the game away early.
An RBI single by Cole Lyons, a groundout by Nate Hopewell, and an RBI single by John Robbins in the first inning and a three-run home run by Jakob Shuler during the second inning supplied the early offense for Apollo.
Jakob racked up four RBIs on two hits for Apollo.
Madisonville's lineup had no answer for Cole . Madisonville managed just one hit off of Lyons, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four during his four innings of work.
Blayde Weaver took the loss for Madisonville. He allowed seven runs in three innings, walked one and struck out four.
Apollo survived Madisonville's surge and put up four runs of its own in the fourth. Apollo scored on a passed ball, an RBI single by Zach Hopewell, an RBI double by John Mark Thompson, and a sacrifice fly by Jakob Shuler.
