Alvin High School Boys Bowling Win Regional Tournament

The Alvin Bowling Center hosted the Regional VIII High School Bowling Tournament on Saturday March 6. Three Houston area districts brought their best players to compete for the chance to qualify for the Texas State High School Bowling Tournament that will be held in San Antonio on March 27 and 28.

Regional Tournament Team Competition Results

The tournament format for the team event was round-robin where each team bowls against every other team once. Upon completion of the round-robin phase, each school had their 8 games added up and the teams were then seeded based on their totals. The next phase would be a position round where Seed 1 would bowl Seed 2, Seed 3 against Seed 4, etc.

At the end of the round-robin phase, the Alvin High School Yellowjackets were seeded number 1 by a slim 16 pin lead ahead of the number 2 seeded Clear Brook High School Boys team that just defeated them on the prior game. The Alvin vs. Clear Brook showdown ended with the Alvin Boys winning their position round match and claiming the 1st Place spot at the Regional Bowling tournament.

The Alvin Boys Team players are David Warren, Hayden Basiliere, Isaac Gonzalez, Tyler Wetmore, Robert Amrhein, Julian Koontz, and Lee Koontz.

Regional Tournament Singles Competition Results

The Regional Singles Competition format consisted of each bowler completing 5 games and adding up their game totals. The top 8 boys and 7 girls would earn an invitation to the 2009-2010 Singles division of Texas High School State Bowling Tournament.

Alvin High School was being represented by Shelbie New, Robert Amrhein, and Tyler Wetmore. Each had qualified for the Regional Tournament during their district play this season by maintaining their high bowling averages.

They bowled their best and qualified to be a part of the 2009-2010 Singles division of Texas High School State Bowling tournament.
