Kouns Retires As Basketball Official

The NEKBOA and Ashland Blazer High School would like to recognize Bob Kouns for his long time committment to High School athletics.

Bob began his journey, as a teacher at Greenup County high school where he taught for 33 years

He was also a long time baseball coach before he began his officiating career.

As an official, Bob has had a long and distinguished career... He has umpired for 48 years; during that time he has called 25 Regional finals and worked 7 State Tournaments

He has also worked 45 years as a football referee including 30 Regional finals and 5 State final games.

As a Basketball referee Bob has worked for 47 years, among his 2500 plus games, he has called in 43 district tournament finals, 43 consecutive Regional Tournaments, 5 State tournaments and 30 Ashland Invitational Tournaments.....

Bob was named the NEKBOA Outstanding Official for the 1975-76 season

Also among his accolades

Bob was elected to the KHSAA Hall of Fame in 2004,

in 2007 Bob was recognized as the KHSAA Outstanding Umpire of the Year and was also named a KHSAA Legend in Kentucky Sports.
