Girls golf team heading to Regionals
May 19, 2011By Kate Kruse of Ankeny Christian Academy
The ACA girls golf team continues to excel far above the competition this year. Playing 4-A tournaments against teams such as Ankeny, Johnston, Ames, Valley, and Dowling Catholic paid off for the girls in their recent 18-hole tournaments against 1-A schools. On May 10th, the girls won the Rolling Hills Conference tournament held at Crestwood Hills for the fourth consecutive year. The team most recently won the District golf tournament held Monday, May 16th at New Sharon. In this meet they defeated Lynnville-Sully by one stroke, 371-372, and easily beat the seven other teams in the tournament. Their score of 371 tied the team's best-ever score, which was previously shot the week before at the conference tournament.
This week the team is preparing for their upcoming battle in the state Regional tournament on May 23rd. The competition will be tough, but they are ready to give it their all. The tournament will be the difference between heading to the state tournament and the end of the season for many players. With 3 senior members on the team, it could potentially be the last meet they play in their high school career. Keeping this in mind, all members will undoubtedly give their best at this meet and strive to give God all of the glory along the way.
