Home » Awards News2011 High School Sullivan Award Finalists are selectedJuly 7, 2011 AAU AthleticsDrum Roll please…… And the winner of the High School Sullivan Award goes to…… Sarah Biddle of Servant Christian Academy in Indiana and Daniel Giovacchini from Lawrence Academy in Massachusetts. Sarah is a multiple world champion with 80 world, national and state records in nine weight classes a first for any power lifter, male or female. She’s a concert harp player, holds the rank of major in the U.S. Air Force Civil Air Patrol and served as her unit’s cadet commander.Sarah will be pursuing a degree in surgical nursing as an ROTC cadet at Maranatha Baptist (Wis.). Her current athletic goal is to participate in the Olympics in 2016 or 2020 in the hammer. In high school career, Daniel earned 12 varsity letters, led undefeated league championship teams in football (running back and linebacker), basketball and baseball. He was team captain in all three sports his senior year and received all-league or higher honors in all three, as well as league MVP in football. Daniel played AAU basketball for six years with the Boston Warriors, winning a state championship and attending six national tournaments. He will attend Brown University in the fall where he’ll play football and basketball. Both High School Sullivan winners and their families will be flown to Orlando, Florida next weekend to accept their award at the opening ceremonies of the ESPN Rise Games. Congratulations again to both recipients and to the other finalists for making it this far. Don’t worry, the other six finalists don’t go away empty handed. Each will be receiving a $2,500 scholarship. Thanks to all who were a part of this year’s High School Sullivan Award. We can’t wait to do it again next year.
