AACC Men's Basketball defeats Frederick
January 15, 2013By Duane Herr of ANNE ARUNDEL COMMUNITY COLLEGE
The men’s basketball team at Anne Arundel Community College bounced back into the win column with a 79-71 win over a tough Frederick Community College program. The win brings AACC’s record to 11-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Riding a four game losing streak the Pioneers traveled to Frederick for their first of nine consecutive MD JUCO conference contests that will conclude their regular season schedule. Frederick, which stands at fourth in the MD JUCO standings with a 13-5 overall record and 6-3 conference record, figured to be the favorite in the 7pm game.
Despite the odds, Anne Arundel stuck to their game and continued their streak of competitive basketball. The Pioneers built a nine point lead going into the half and bested their 39 point first half score by one in the second half. Frederick outscored AACC 41-40 in the second but the first half lead proved to be the difference.
Jarvez Pierce was the leading point man for the Pioneers with 22. He also grabbed seven rebounds and accounted for six assists. Jalen Lester added 20 points, five steals and four rebounds. Sean Brinson scored 14 points and led AACC with 12 rebounds.
Anne Arundel men’s hoops is back in action Wednesday night when they host CCBC Catonsville (6-9, 4-5 MD JUCO) in a 7pm conference showdown.
