AACC Men's Basketball loses tough game to NOVA
January 14, 2013By Duane Herr of ANNE ARUNDEL COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Anne Arundel Community College’s men’s basketball team battled again Saturday evening but came up short in a hard fought 101-92 loss to Northern Virginia Community College.
With the setting sun beaming into the windows of Jenkins Gymnasium at tip-off the Pioneers looked to right the ship, having lost their three prior contests. Early in the first half Anne Arundel (10-5, 2-4 MD JUCO) took a tough blow when starting guard David Abraham went down with an ankle injury. Abraham would not return but his replacement Keenan Chapman provided a spark off the bench.
The half was filled with offense as the teams’ seemed to keep pace basket for basket. AACC held the slight advantage going into the half with a 49-44 lead.
The second half would stick to script as both teams continued to rack up points. However, NOVA (7-7) found a way to edge AACC and would outscore the Pioneers 57 to 43 in the second half.
Jalen Lester and Keenan Chapman would combine for 62 of Anne Arundel’s 92 points. Lester scored 37 shooting 4-6 from three point land and 13-14 from the free-throw stripe. He also added six assists and five rebounds. Chapman scored 25 and collected seven rebounds. Jarvez Pierce added 11 points and led the team with 12 rebounds.
The Pioneers are back in action tonight with a road game at Frederick Community College (13-4, 6-2). Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm following the women’s game.
