AACC Men's Basketball Wins Onondaga Classic

Anne Arundel Community College’s men’s basketball team returns home from Syracuse, New York as the 2012 Onondaga Classic Champions. The Pioneers won a pair of games over the weekend to secure the tournament title and improve to 9-1 overall.

In their opening round game on December 8 AACC matched up against Mass Bay Community College (8-2) of Wellesley Hills, MA. The Pioneers outlasted Mass Bay 68-66 to advance to the championship contest.   

Jalen Lester was the high point man for AACC against Mass Bay with 17 points. Tyler Washington added 13 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 assists. Jarvez Pierce and James Aorilio each scored 12 points.

In the championship game the Pioneers competed against the host of the tournament, Onondaga Community College (7-5). Anne Arundel erupted for their highest scoring game of the season, defeating Onondaga 111-89.

Lester led AACC scorers with 27 points while adding 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Aorilio scored 19 and Washington added 16. Anthony Frazier was 5-6 from the field including 2-2 from three point range to score 14 points.

Lester was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Aorilio and Washington earned All-Tournament team honors.

AACC men’s basketball will close out their December schedule this Saturday, December 15, with a 3pm home game against CCAC – Allegheny (2-5).
