Home » General NewsAACC Women's Soccer Loses a Heartbreaker in Double OTNovember 9, 2012 By Duane Herr of ANNE ARUNDEL COMMUNITY COLLEGEThe Anne Arundel Community College women’s soccer team competed in their second game of the 2012 NJCAA DIII National Championship tournament Friday morning, needing a win to remain in the tournament. The Pioneers matched up against Harper College in a 10am game, the winner advancing to the fifth place game and the loser facing elimination. Harper scored the first goal of the game around the 15 minute mark taking an early 1-0 advantage. With 12 minutes left in the first half, Anne Arundel’s Meghenn Jackson found the net to tie the game. The scored at the half was 1-1. In the second half both teams had chances to score but neither could net a goal. At the end of 90 minutes the game remained pitted 1-1. After a scoreless 10 minute overtime period the game headed to double overtime. Harper would score with less than six minutes left in the second overtime to win the game 2-1 and advance, eliminating AACC. AACC women’s soccer finishes the season with an 11-6 mark, as Region 20 & District H champions, and National tournament representatives. En route to those championships the Pioneers strung together seven consecutive wins outscoring opponents 36 to 2. Five Pioneers earned All Region and All Conference awards for their play this season. Meghenn Jackson, Katrina Chao and Alyssa Hankins each earned All-Region first team honors. Jackson also earned All-Conference first team accolades while Chao and Hankins earned spots on the second team. Nichole Forrester and Sara Boothe also earned All-Region second team honors.
