Jackson lifts AACC women's soccer past CSM

September 20, 2012
By Duane Herr of ANNE ARUNDEL COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Returning home for just their second home game of the 2012 season the Pioneer women’s soccer team hosted College of Southern Maryland on Wednesday evening after a rainout pushed the game back from Tuesday. The 3-2 Pioneers were coming off of a weekend split against two New Jersey teams and looked to get their second victory in the conference against CSM.

In a relatively even match each team fired off shots for much of the first half but it was CSM who would find the net first for the 1-0 advantage. The score would remain the same going into halftime.

Despite several efforts to get on the board Anne Arundel’s offense couldn’t seem to find the net. With less than ten minutes left the Pioneers picked up the pace and around the seven minute mark Meghenn Jackson drilled a free kick past the Hawks goalie to tie the game.

Almost two minutes later Jackson beat the CSM defense and lifted a shot into the goal for the 2-1 advantage. The Pioneer defense held off attempts by CSM to tie the game and 8th ranked AACC won 2-1. Goalie Chelsea Clark Ames notched seven saves for Anne Arundel.

Anne Arundel was ranked 10th in Division III last week and has since jumped to 8th with a 4-2 overall record and 2-0 MD JUCO conference mark. Sophomore forward Meghenn Jackson is featured as the September student-athlete on the MD JUCO website, mdjuco.org.
