AACC Softball All Region Awards

        Four Anne Arundel CC softball players have earned All-Region 20 First team honors for the 2012 season. Sophomore’s Darah LaMarsh and Elaine Nescio are accompanied by freshmen Janie Thrift and Shelby Smith on the All-Region team.

         The following stats are from games prior to the national championship which Anne Arundel Softball will compete in Thursday, May 17 through Saturday, May 19 in Rochester, Minnesota.

          The Pioneer catcher, Darah LaMarsh, batted .411 scoring 41 times while driving in 37 runs. In 46 games this season LaMarsh collected 62 hits including three homeruns.

          Anne Arundel’s ace pitcher Elaine Nescio dominated the opposition this season posting a 30-3 record with a 1.11 ERA and 313 strikeouts. As the leadoff hitter she batted .481 and scored 51 times. She hit a team leading 20 doubles, drove in 25 runs and belted four homeruns.

         Freshman infielder Janie Thrift batted .403 for the Pioneers this season while collecting 56 hits including seven doubles and two triples. Thrift scored 40 runs and drove in 26. Drawing 16 walks and collecting seven sacrifices she had an on base percentage of .455.

         Freshman infielder/pitcher Shelby Smith had an outstanding season for the Pioneers leading the team in runs batted in with 41 and homeruns with six. Smith was a close second in runs scored, 50, doubles, 17, and batting average, .419. As a pitcher Smith posted a 9-4 record with 39 strikeouts.

         The Pioneers (39-8) are scheduled to play their first game of the 2012 NJCAA Division III Softball National Championship tournament on Thursday, May 17th against Ridgewater College (33-9) at 12pm. The official tournament website is: www.rochsports.org/2012njcaasoftball.php.
