May 14, 2014Princeton High School
The Princeton Vikings' baseball team lost 5-1 to the Western Hills Mustangs in the first round of the Sectional Tournament on Tuesday, May 14 at Western Hills High School. The Vikings finish the season with a 4-22 overall record.
Junior pitcher Christopher Taylor was cruising through the Mustangs batting order in the early innings, but a high pitch count and offensive threat late by Western Hills forced Coach Wilson to go to his bullpen.
Taylor tossed 4.1 innings and scattered just two hits. He allowed 3 runs (2 earned) and struck out 9 batters. He finished the season leading the team with 37 strikeouts and posted a 3.64 earned run average.
The Mustangs muscled 4 runs on 5 hits after the fifth inning. Brandon Blankenship, the team's work horse on the mound, tossed the final 1.2 innings and surrendered 2 runs. He finished the season hurling a team-high 33.2 innings.
Princeton's bats were held to just three base hits.
Chappell Kelly drove in Tanner Lewellyn for the lone run.
Jeremy Abbott smash a double and walked, and Tanner McGladrie reached base three times on a base hit and two walks.
The Vikings were unable to convert two bases loaded and less than two outs, as the Mustangs' pitching slammed the door to secure the win.
